Passion and Potential

Passion is such a demanding and intimidating term. As we grow up, there is so much pressure to find your passion. Know what you want to do and do it forever and ever. For some that just happens (which is awesome!) but, for others (like me), it doesn’t. And, here’s the thing…that is ok! Actually, it’s better than ok, simply because you are provided an opportunity to explore and unearth your POTENTIAL instead. No need to exert all of our energy on finding a passion if you don’t feel you have one. Just get out there and play!

Here’s how I see it…

Passion is a path paved for you. You spend your life driving down this long, straight road, sometimes taking pit stops to explore opportunities that don’t take you too far off course but, you never lose your direction. You are always moving forward.

Potential is not a path. Potential is off-roading – twists, turns, bumps, dead ends, and sometimes straightaways. You explore opportunities wherever and whenever they arise. You have no direction. Still, you are always moving forward.

Two different and equally powerful ideals with the same underlying truth: both require curiosity, creativity and determination. How do you grow in your passion if you don’t explore those pit stops every once in a while? How do you know your potential if you don’t get out of your comfort zone and cruise around those twists and turns?

Whether you have a passion or not, everybody is curious, creative and determined in their own way BUT, it’s those who take control and live beyond expectation that get the most out of life.

Seems heavy right? And, oh my gosh, it must be so much work! Wrongo. The small steps you take to move forward every day matter. You just need to stop second-guessing your every move. So, if you’re one of those people who spends life saying “I can’t” or “what if” and doesn’t feel convinced, by all means, ignore this post and get back to moping OR start exploring what’s out there.

DING, DING, DING, welcome to your first B3 Breakthrough – small challenges I like to throw out there every now and then to make sure you’re pickin’ up what I’m puttin’ down.

b3breakthrough

B3 BREAKTHROUGH: Pique your curiosity. You know, that indecisive voice in your head that harasses you to get out there and try something new. LISTEN TO IT. Make the decision to try that something – the only person you need permission from is you. When you explore new opportunities, you learn so much more about yourself as an individual than if you sit at home and just consider your options. When you get those wheels turning, you begin a process of trial and error that allows you to wean out the clutter that’s hindering you from your potential and your future greatness. So get yourself out there and try that kickboxing class or whatever it is you’re so afraid of!

Tip: If it excites you, write it down. That’s inspiration knocking and you best open that damn door.
